Fantasy World: A progress report // Fantasy World: il punto della situazione

Hello backers!
Even though we’d all like to live inside a typhoon of air conditioning through this torrid summer, the Fantasy World team hasn’t stopped working. We’d like to share our progress with you:
-The Fantasy World Core Book is basically finished and is being translated, from Italian into English, by the author – Alessandro Piroddi. Further work will need to be done, such as proofreading by a native speaker and sensitivity reading.
-We’ve received most of the Kosmohedron settings and those too are being translated right now. Proofreading by a native speaker and sensitivity reading will be necessary in this case too.
- Luca Maiorani (author and illustrator) is extremely busy with work, but he’s keeping up with his work for the Fantasy World Kickstarter campaign. Aside from checking the different settings we receive, he’s also creating illustrations for both manuals and doing the graphics layout.

Anche se in questa estate torrida tutti avremmo voglia di fermarci nel centro di un tifone di aria condizionata, il team di Fantasy World non si è fermato un minuto. Vogliamo quindi condividere con voi il punto della situazione.
- Il Core Book di Fantasy World è praticamente terminato ed è in fase di traduzione, dall’italiano all’inglese, da parte dell’autore Alessandro Piroddi. Saranno poi necessari altri processi come il controllo da parte di una madrelingua e il sensitivity reading.
- I setting del Kosmohedron ci sono stati quasi tutti consegnati e siamo già in traduzione con quelli già disponibili. Anche qui sarà poi necessario controllo da parte di una madrelingua e il sensitivity reading.
- Luca Maiorani (autore e illustratore) è estremamente impegnato con il lavoro ma riesce comunque a portare avanti gli impegni del Kickstarter di Fantasy World. Oltre al controllo sui vari setting che ci vengono consegnati, sta curando le illustrazioni di entrambi i manuali e l’impaginazione.

Our commitment to Fantasy World Core Book and Kosmohedron Book is constant and we are glad to show you a first draft of the setting, made by the authors Chiara Listo and Giuseppe Vitale!
Ananke (from the Greek 'destiny') is a setting written for Fantasy World that is loosely based on the Greek tragedies. Set on the planet Gaea, it focuses on the Kingdom of Heliopolis in its darkest hour.
Background
Sixteen years ago, the king Aelfric the Sacred – a descendant of the gods, like the rulers that came before him – and lord of Heliopolis and all the islands, was brutally murdered in a conspiracy devised by his son, Lambach. Enraged by the bloodshed, the Sun disappeared from the sky and no one – not even the oldest magicians and wisest masters – were able to explain what had happened.
The False Sun
It took the wizards of Thars great effort to replicate the sunlight with a magic that drained their power but allowed them to go on living. The light of the so-called False Sun can barely surround the Kingdom of Heliopolis but it is weak. The wizards calculate that the False Sun will exist for at least a century and then the Era of the Umbrae shall begin.
The Situation in Gaea
Entire kingdoms and the nearby city-states collapsed and countless peoples disappeared in the darkness. Only a few survivors managed to get close enough to the shores of Heliopolis to seek asylum, which was granted, though with many difficulties.
The Umbrae
The Darkness is alive: no one who has ventured there has returned to tell what they saw. The only things we know for sure are the screams of those who are taken by the Darkness and the blurred vision of monstrous figures that emerge from the Umbra.

I nostri sforzi sul Manuale Base di Fantasy World e sul libro del Kosmohedron sono costanti e siamo felici di potervi mostrare una prima bozza del setting ideato dagli autori Chiara Listo e Giuseppe Vitale!
Ananke (dal greco “Destino”) è un setting scritto per Fantasy World, liberamente ispirato alle Tragedie Greche. Ambientato sul pianeta Gea, si incentra sul Regno di Heliopolis nel suo momento più buio.
Antefatto
Sedici anni fa, il re, Aelfric il Sacro – discendente degli dèi, come i e le regnanti prima di lui– signore di Heliopolis e di tutte le isole, venne brutalmente assassinato da un complotto ordito da suo figlio, Lambach. Irato dallo spargimento di sangue, il Sole scomparve dal cielo e nessuno, nemmeno i maghi più anziani e i maestri più saggi, seppe spiegarsi cosa sia accaduto.
Il Falso Sole
Con immane fatica, i maghi di Thars replicarono la luce solare usando una magia che prosciugò le loro energie, ma che, per lo meno, permise loro di continuare a vivere. Oggi, la luce di quello che viene chiamato Falso Sole è molto debole e riesce a malapena a circondare il Regno di Heliopolis. I maghi hanno calcolato che il Falso Sole riuscirà a esistere per almeno un secolo. Poi, sarà l’era delle Umbrae.
La Situazione a Gea
Interi regni e città-stato vicine sono crollate e innumerevoli popoli sono scomparsi nell’oscurità. Soltanto qualche superstite è riuscito ad avvicinarsi abbastanza alle coste di Heliopolis da chiedere asilo, cosa che è stata concessa, seppur con molte difficoltà.
Le Umbrae
L’Oscurità è viva: nessuno che vi si sia avventurato è tornato per raccontare cos'ha visto. Ciò che è certo sono le urla di coloro che vengono ghermiti da essa e la visione, confusa, di figure mostruose che si muovono nell’Umbra.

Luca e io siamo onestamente onorati dall'incredibile amore, supporto e puro entusiasmo che avete riversato nel nostro progetto, e sono abbastanza sicuro che tutto il team di MS Edizioni provi esattamente lo stesso. È stato un viaggio movimentato, due settimane di fuoco a culminazione di mesi di preparazione e lavoro. E ora è finita. Ed è un successo! Davvero, GRAZIE!
Ma questo non è un addio.
Il raggiungimento dell'obiettivo di finanziamento è stato solo il primo passo di un lungo viaggio. Dopo che la polvere si sarà posata sui frenetici giorni del Kickstarter sarà il momento di passare al VERO lavoro!
Il testo inglese ha bisogno di un bel proofreading e sensibility check.
Il testo italiano ha bisogno di un accurato controllo di traduzione e adattamento.
Gli autori ospiti, e io e Luca, inizieremo a darci da fare per forgiare nuovi universi per il Kosmohedron, che avranno bisogno anche loro di correzioni e traduzioni.
E poi nasceranno mille e una illustrazioni.
E tutto sarà impaginato in configurazioni non euclidee fino a quando lo riterremo cosa buona, o periremo provandoci.
E POI il miracolo di trasformare idee in oggetti comincerà a bollire, gorgogliare e cuocere fino a quando i nostri file digitali si condenseranno in cose fatte di carta, cartone e bellezza.
A un certo punto di questo percorso il wiki-manuale riceverà anche lui una bella rinfrescata.
Tutto questo sarà fatto con un occhio puntato verso l'obiettivo di rispettare la scadenza promessa della primavera 2022. Prima i PDF fatti e rifiniti. Poi i manuali fisici e la loro spedizione in tutto il mondo. Nel frattempo, ricordatevi che potete già giocare a Fantasy World dato che il regolamento completo è disponibile in formato wiki, e che l'intero quicksetting di SILIKA è uno splendido PDF gratuito a solo click di distanza.
Vi terremo aggiornati.
Parleremo delle nuove ambientazioni, delle nuove classi (DUE grazie alla vostra generosità), delle vostre esperienze di gioco, dei nostri articoli di design e altro ancora.

Luca and I are honestly humbled by the incredible love, support and sheer enthusiasm everyone poured in our project, and I’m pretty sure that the whole MS Edizioni team feels exactly the same. It was a bumpy ride, two weeks of fire that were the culmination of months of preparation and work. And now it’s over. And it’s a success! Seriously, THANK YOU!
Alas, this is not a farewell.
Smashing the funding goal was just the first step in a long journey. After the dust settles on the hectic Kickstarter days, it will be time to get to the REAL work!
The english text needs proofreading and sensitivity checking.
The italian text needs an accurate translation check and adaptation.
The guest authors, and Luca and I, will get cracking on forging new universes for the Kosmohedron, which will need proofing and translating too.
And then a thousand and one illustrations will be born.
And all shall be laid out in non-euclidean configurations until we will think it is good, or will perish trying.
And THEN the miracle of turning ideas into things will start brewing, bubbling and stewing until our digital files congeal into things made of paper, cardboard and beauty.
Somewhere along the line the free wiki-rulebook will get a much needed refresh too.
All this with an eye towards the goal of meeting the promised deadline of Spring 2022. First the final and polished PDFs. Then the physical books and their worldwide shipping. In the meantime, remember that you can already play Fantasy World, as the full rulebook is available to you in wiki format, and that the whole quicksetting of SILIKA is a gorgeous free PDF just one click away.
